Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial cystitis (IC), often known as Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS) or Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPP) is a chronic disease characterized pelvic pain, pressure, or discomfort in the bladder or pelvic region. Often it feels like a urinary tract infection, however there is no detectable bacteria causing it. Patients with IC are commonly misdiagnosed as simply being prone to urinary infection. This means they are given antibiotics, but because there is no infection, they do not solve the problem.
If you have interstitial cystitis, you are not alone. It affects every 1 in 26 people, and according to Harvard Health, it is often so disabling that many people can not work full-time.
The cause of interstitial cystitis is unknown, likely because it has a multitude of factors, including hormonal imbalances, autoimmune factors, allergic over-activation, dietary irritants, and genetic factors. You may be overwhelmed by not knowing where to start, but here at Kansas City Integrative Health, we understand your concerns and we are here to provide relief. Because of the complexity of interstitial cystitis as a condition, you will receive a complete evaluation and a specialized treatment that addressed your most likely contributors to this condition.
